We started with a speaker in a park.

Two young men, wearing hats and sunglasses, shaking hands or exchanging something at an outdoor event on a sunny day, with a stage and DJ setup in the background.

In late 2024, two friends brought two speakers to Rotary Park in Calgary and invited everyone they knew to come hang out at sunset. A few dozen people showed up.

By the end of 2025, over 1,000 people were coming to every event. No paid advertising, no tickets sold, no corporate backing. Just word of mouth and a community that kept growing because people told their friends about it.

That's Dos Leches. Free outdoor gatherings where the music plays until the sun goes down, kids run through the grass, dogs wander between blankets, and people who showed up alone leave with new friends.

What happens at an event

Every Dos Leches event happens in the afternoon in one of Calgary's public parks. We bring the sound system, book the DJs, and set up everything from food vendors to kids' activities. You bring a blanket and whoever you want to spend the afternoon with.

The music starts around 3 PM and runs until sunset. There's no cover charge, no tickets, no wristbands. You just walk in. Some people dance for hours. Some people sit on the grass with their families and eat. Some people just lie on a blanket and listen. All of that is the point.

We coordinate with the city, manage sound levels for the neighbourhood, run on-site safety, and work with licensed partners for any beer garden operations. Every event is professionally run by volunteers who care about getting the details right.

By the numbers

7 events in 2025 across three Calgary venues. Over 7000 attendees in the 2025 summer season.

87% of the people who came travelled from outside the host neighbourhood. Ages 2 to 70+ at every gathering. Zero paid advertising. Zero incidents.

Everything you see here happened because people showed up and told other people to show up too.

What we're about

The park belongs to everyone.

We use public spaces because they're the most democratic venues in the city. No bouncer, no guest list, no minimum spend. If you can get to the park, you're in.

Free means free.

We've never charged admission and we don't plan to start. Every Dos Leches event is free. That's not a promotional phase. It's the whole point.

The details matter.

We manage sound so the neighbours aren't affected. We coordinate with the city on permits and safety. We set up dedicated kids' areas. We clean up when it's over. Running a free event doesn't mean running a sloppy one.

Where we're going

Dos Leches is becoming a registered non-profit. The Dos Leches Society is how we build a real structure under this community, so we can keep running free events for Calgary year after year.

We're also building the Spotlight Series, a new project where we create cinematic videos that showcase local artists and the parts of Calgary that make this city worth celebrating. First releases are coming soon.

And the 2026 season is on its way. More parks, more music, more sunsets.

Come find us

The best way to know when the next event is happening is to get on the list. We only send emails when there's something worth saying.
