What Is Dos Leches? Calgary's Free Outdoor Event Series

Dos Leches is a free, outdoor cultural event series in Calgary. Every event features live DJ performances, runs from afternoon to sunset, and is open to everyone. No tickets. No cover charge. No age restrictions. Just music, sunlight, and a park full of people.

We've been running since late 2024. In our first full season (2025), we hosted five events across Calgary, with over 1,000 people showing up to each one. Every single person found out about it through word of mouth, social media, or by walking past and staying. We've never spent a dollar on advertising.

What to expect at an event

A Dos Leches event runs roughly four to six hours, starting in the afternoon and ending at sunset. Here's what it looks like:

  • Live DJ sets running the entire time. The music builds through the afternoon and peaks at golden hour. You'll hear house, electronic, and feel-good selections. It's curated, not random.

  • People on blankets, in lawn chairs, on the grass. Some are dancing. Some are picnicking. Some are just sitting in the sun watching everything happen around them. It's not a standing-room concert. It's a gathering. You choose your own experience.

  • Kids are everywhere. We have a kids section at our events. Families are a huge part of what makes this work. You'll see babies with headphones on, toddlers running through the crowd, teenagers with their parents. If you need a babysitter to attend an event, this isn't that kind of event.

  • Dogs are welcome. Always have been. You'll see plenty of them.

  • Food vendors are on-site. We've partnered with local food trucks and vendors to make sure you can eat without leaving.

  • Art installations from local artists. We work with Calgary arts organizations to feature visual art alongside the music.

  • Beer garden run by Cold Garden Beverage Company at select events. All licensing and permits handled properly.

The vibe is relaxed. People come and go as they please. There's no schedule to follow, no set times to memorize. You show up when you want and leave when you're ready. Most people stay until the sun goes down.

Where we've hosted events

In 2025, we held events at Rotary Park (twice, outgrew capacity both times), River Hall at Eau Claire (twice, in partnership with Eau Claire Community Association), and 33 Acres Brewing Co. Our 2026 season will expand to new venues across Calgary.

We're always looking for parks and public spaces that can hold a large crowd, offer a good sunset view, and feel right for the kind of gathering we create. If you've been to one of our events, you know the venue matters. The park is part of the experience.

Who shows up

Our core audience is 25 to 44 years old, but that only tells part of the story. On any given event day, you'll see university students, young families, retirees, groups of friends, couples, and people who came alone. 87% of attendees travel from outside the neighbourhood where the event is happening, which means people are crossing the city to be there.

The crowd at a Dos Leches event looks like Calgary looks. Every culture, every age, every background. That's not a marketing line. It's what happens when an event is free, outdoors, and during the day. The barriers that normally filter a crowd don't exist here.

How it started

Two friends brought a speaker to a park in late 2024 and invited their friends to come listen to music at sunset. A few dozen people showed up. Within a year, it was over 1,000 per event.

We didn't plan for it to grow like this. We just wanted to share our love for music in a way that felt different from everything else in Calgary. No dark rooms, no tickets, no dress code. Just a park, a sound system, and an open invitation.

It took on a life of its own. People kept coming back and kept bringing friends. What started as a pop-up became a community.

Dos Leches Society

We're in the process of becoming a registered non-profit. Dos Leches Society is the formal arm behind the events, and it's how we'll apply for grants, formalize partnerships, and build this into something that lasts beyond any one season.

We also run Dos Leches Gives, which integrates charitable initiatives into our events, including food bank drives. Community isn't just about gathering. It's about taking care of each other.

How to find out about upcoming events

We don't announce events months in advance. Typically, event details drop 10 to 14 days before the date. The best way to make sure you don't miss one:

Sign up for the email list at dosleches.ca. Follow us on Instagram (@dos.leche5) or TikTok (@dos.leche5).

That's it. Show up to a park, bring a blanket, and see what happens

Music. Sunsets. Community.
